Felling The removal of trees by way of a series of directional cuts which drop the tree in one go.
FellingSection felling When there is not enough space or it is too dangerous to fell the tree in one. It is climbed and dismantled in sections often one branch at a time. Lowering equipment can also be used when the tree is in a particularly tight space.
Section fellingReductions A reduction can be in height or width or all-round. It’s when the ends of the branches are cut reducing the overall canopy size or its silhouette.
ReductionsThinning Another pruning technique this time a number of branches are removed from within the crown to open it up allowing more light and air to pass through. This often ends up looking more natural than a reduction but can give some of the same benefits.
ThinningCrown lifting Is the removal of the lower branches raising the height of the canopy often to allow axes under the tree.
Crown liftingPollarding Removes all the branches or at least cuts them back very hard removing all the small branches and leaves. This looks harsh but the tree regrows from a much smaller size. Pollarding can only be done to certain species that are capable of growing back.
